Help - Uniden UBC73XLT

Post by Surferdude11 »

Hello all,

Im very new to scanning and want to ask a few questions. Im thinking of purchasing the Uniden UBC73XLT and was wondering if i can hear a few frequencies involving these things.

NSW Police (Sutherland Shire, Cronulla, Miranda etc.)
NSW Fire (Miranda, Cronulla etc.)
NSW Ambulance Frequencies
Surf Lifesaving Sydney (Surfcom Sydney)

Thanks, And I apologise if I asked dumb Q's about the frequencies because I do not fully understand local command frequencies etc.

Welcome Surferdude

short answer no to the first 3 yes to 4. New South Wales Police are using P25 with Encryption, FRNSW are running on the NSW Government Radio Network as are ASNSW and you will require a digital scanner for this as for SLSNSW you can still listen to them and some councils aswell. sorry for the dull news but welcome to the hobby

The UBCD396XT can do both analogue and digital (p25) however will not do encrypted traffic

What scanner would you recommend? And what channels from my list would it pick up?

I apologise for all the questions and thanks for all your help!!

Scanner - as mentioned earlier - 396 would be the best shot....

As for what you can expect to hear - my thoughts would be:
NSW Police (Sutherland Shire, Cronulla, Miranda etc.) - NO
NSW Fire (Miranda, Cronulla etc.) - YES
NSW Ambulance Frequencies - PROBABLY, depending on if they are encrypted or not
Surf Lifesaving Sydney (Surfcom Sydney) - YES

As I have not been actively listening to them in Sydney, I cannot be 100% sure.
Sure someone here will be able to provide more definitive answers for you.

ASNSW to my knowledge or to encrypted so he should be fine with that. It's just the police he won't be able to listen to
