UBC93xlt
I recently decided to get back into scanning after a few years out of it.
Bought a GME 1300.
Not happy with it. I am an old bloke and my eyesight isn't great...glasses help a little...but I am having trouble with the display. I find it difficult to read and the function icons are useless.
Frankly the operating system is a bit complicated, too.
Either radio has become more complex in the last ten or so years or I am losing brain cells faster tha I thought
I have been looking around the web and like the look of the Uniden 93xlt. Just wondering if anyone here has any experience with the model.
The 73xlt is cheaper...but might suit.
I am only interested in local emergency services.
Especially police (they are still using analog here on the NSW N Coast).
Looking forward to some ideas

Thanks..and I thought my old Yupiteru and Welz were difficult.
The ICR10 wasn't easy either.
At least I could read their displays.

Hi Brian and welcome
Maybe you might be better with something that is PC programmable ? just a suggestion. Although you will have to spend some money to get those features. Off memory the only one on the market in Australia at the moment would be the Uniden 396xt

Re: UBC93xlt
Thanks Shane. Good advice.
But I don't need more than a handfull of channels.
And I want a handheld...my old Bearcat will cover them when listening at home.
What happened to all of the basic scanners we used to see in the 90s?
They were what sucked me into the hobby and cost me many thousands of dollars over the next decade
For instance where did Tandy go with all of those entry level Realistics.
In my region Tandy is gone and DSE are looking more like Harvey Norman all the time.

Re: UBC93xlt
Maybe keep an eye out on ebay, something like a Uniden 120xlt really easy to program. 72xlt are not too bad, maybe pop into your local DSE and give one a try see what you think of it.

Re: UBC93xlt
Second hand could be the go....but the local DSE don't seem to deal in much in the way of comms stuff, now.
Mostly computers and TVs.
And Tandy are long-gone.

Re: UBC93xlt
the 73 has 100 channels & doesn't come with a power pack
the 93 has 200 channels & comes with a power pack
I think thats the main difference

Re: UBC93xlt
I would be looking for a second hand 73xlt on ebay they come up quite often.
Its a shame you were not looking about 14months ago Brian, DSE hand them on run out for $50.
You can not buy a 73xlt new anymore I do not think?

Local dealer said he had one a week ago...nearly $200, though. You can not buy a 73xlt new anymore I do not think?
Some 'net dealers seem to have them, too.
No worries. Gonna pick up my old IC40s up on monday...minor repairs...will see if he still has the Uniden.
THEN, I suppose, I will decide how badly I need one.
Gotta say, though I have, never, dealt on eBay.
Won't use social media, either.

Yeah I had a look at the Uniden website and there are still listed, strange DSE had them on runout.
This guy sells lots of stuff and seems good.

Re: UBC93xlt
We have all learned to adjust... I mean I just can't walk into my local Dick Smith Electronics and buy the components, rf connectors and various other items I require like we could back in the 80's & 90's, so I take to the internet and eBay, found some nice desk top scanners there too, some from the USA some local all perfect for Air band and the remaining Analogue services.brianWE wrote:Gotta say, though I have, never, dealt on eBay.

Re: UBC93xlt
Yeah!
Been adjusting for over 70 years....it IS getting harder, though.
I do miss DSE and Tandy.
Autobarn advertise, here, that they are Jaycar dealers. Must have a look, soon.
I know they do sell UHF radios.
Big fan of ABC Radio....but I get frustrated when they tell me to go to FaceBook and Twitter for more information....
Forget it!!!!!!!

I remember when Dick Smith Electronics opened in my home town back in the 80's, I truly felt like a kid in a candy store the latest incarnation is a joke.
Super Cheap Auto has CB radios too if you have one of those locally...
