Hi All,

Is anyone aware if it's possible to decode the NSW Ambulance MDT messages?

Hi,

Like everything, I usually think that their must be a way. As to what that is though, not sure. I have wondered about trying it on the QLD Ambo's actually but have not yet gotten around to doing all the research.

Cheers,

you can decode some qld mdts transmissions. qld run MDTs and AVL for there data dispatch.the thing is with qld mdts is you need to monitor a lot of freqs to catch them. they tx data to the ambo through the closest repeater, so if they are on the northside and your on the southern side you wont hear the transmission cause they get it sent through a northside repeater only, hope that makes sense.

Scanning MDT's in Australia is difficult because of the way the data is sent to and from the MDT. While they use the vehicle radios to connect status messages such as en route and on scene are sent as P25 or trunk status messages the data on the screen such as job details etc are sent over the radio network through a low bandwidth packet data link over the same radio network as the voice traffic. On top of that many emergency services due to the added features of the MDT are moving away from packet radio and going to 4G wireless broadband on the MDT and connect back to the dispatch center over a secure VPN tunnel.

@melbourneradio is right that there is mdtmon but products like that pretty much will only see the status messages being sent back and forth and status codes are sinply a number with the message being predefined on both the dispatch side and the end users radio / mdt.

No you cant, for the simple fact that NSW have switched already to 4GX in regional and are in the process of switching over in metropolitan (if not already).

There was still a lot of cars working the old MDT System up until the beginning of June but after that everything went quiet. The System still broadcasts basic network information but thats all. Every vehicle is now working on the new network and cant be listened into.
