WANTED -Serial Cable for UBCT9
I am after a serial cable which connects a Uniden UBCT9 to a PC complete with the necessary connectors. I do not have the skills/knowledge to make my own and I have given up trying to find anyone local who sells them. Yes I know they may have them on eBay, but I wouldn't know which one to choose and end up getting the wrong one
I have the Uniden software CD.
I will pay by money order or bank Xfer for one that just plugs into my scanner and the PC.
Cheers

Hey Comint:
Read my posts here, and here, from the last time you raised this matter.
Yes I drew a blank on these. None of them fit as the cable connectors are both female, or female/male. I require both connectors to be MALE as the sockets on the scanner and on the CPU are female.

Wow! You must have a strange set-up. I have only ever seen one Computer with a Female connector for the Serial Port, and that was back in the early 80's, and it was a DB25.AIRMAN wrote: I require both connectors to be MALE as the sockets on the scanner and on the CPU are female.

Re: WANTED -Serial Cable for UBCT9
OK here's the photo's!
PIC#1 shows the Magenta colored 25 pin socket on the back of my PC
PIC#2 shows the socket on the back of the UBCT9
This is the set up I have minus the SWRX which died.

The plot thickens. Thats a DB25, and Female DB25s are usually Printer Ports (Parallel).AIRMAN wrote:OK here's the photo's!

No wonder you are having trouble getting a suitable cable.

Re: WANTED -Serial Cable for UBCT9
that top photo is a printer port, that's definitely a printer Icon, also the Magenta is the colour coding of parallel ports.
I suspect that you don't have a serial port at all
You could check by right clicking My Computer, properties, device manager, ports

Re: WANTED -Serial Cable for UBCT9
All the posts that I have seen, indicate that Uniden's UASD software does NOT work with USB to RS-232 adapters.Rohan wrote:i think you can get one thats seral to usb but u have to be carefull to get the right software to go with it other wise they dont work my old boss used one on his digital multy meter
In the event that some other software is to be used, then USB to RS-232 adapters that use an FTDI chipset, are the most reliable.

Re: WANTED -Serial Cable for UBCT9
hmmmm hows a plug like that (serial) gonna help with a parallel port (unless I am hugely mistaken)
Its not going to work,
Airman check in device manager and see what ports are showing, there is conflicting reports here

Re: WANTED -Serial Cable for UBCT9
PDW looks for a com port.
The 25 pin printer socket is designated as LPT1 port (in Windows).
They are different beasts.

Re: WANTED -Serial Cable for UBCT9
im not entirely sure but this is why i thought you could still use the 25 or the 9 pin (see info below that i was working off) but i dont own a computer with either so i cant try it right this second, but i thought that the settings could be changed on those type of thing. thats the problem with having the new laptops they work off usb and thats about it.
The widest application of D-subs is for RS-232 serial communications, though the standard did not make this connector mandatory. RS-232 devices originally used the DB25 25-pin D-sub, but for many applications the less common signals were omitted, allowing a DE9 9-pin D-sub to be used. The standard indicates a male connector for terminal equipment and a female connector for modems, but many variations exist.
Edit
so i just went and fired up firebrigade desktop and i could change settins of the paralel printer port to mirror the com port that it also has, and under general info it is listed as a (com/LPT1) and the 9 pin is also listed as a (com/LPT1)

Re: WANTED -Serial Cable for UBCT9
When I tried the USB version to control the scanner via the computer it didnt work. Had to get the one with pins in both ends.

Re: WANTED -Serial Cable for UBCT9
What "USB version" are you talking about?Stretch wrote:When I tried the USB version to control the scanner via the computer it didnt work. Had to get the one with pins in both ends.
If you are talking about a USB-to-RS232 adapter, you need to run/install a Virtual Com Port (VCP) driver so that the operating system thinks that you have another Serial Port installed. UBCT9 works OK with this setup.
