Why would you want to mod it?

Are you meaning to program in frequencies you want to receive or actually modifying the radio ?

I want to set it up and learn how to put in private channels (friends have one for 4x4ing and hunting)
learn how to adjust output power, have it scan different freq in a differnt bank, police/CFA.
And just learn more about the unit and what it can do ;-)

Are you a licenced for amateur radio? If yes, and if you can spend the time to drop by in the Brisbane CBD area I will be willing to show you the ropes.

My background is in commercial radio and amateur radio has been neglected by me. At this point in time I don't even have a single HF transceiver. Sometimes I wonder what I hold the licence for.

To do those things you will need a programming cable and the software.

The software is listed here http://aussiescanners.com/forum/viewtop ... 265&t=4341 and you can get a programming cable from www.radioworks.com.au or ebay etc.

Have a look in the software section there is a few other bits and pieces for the IC-400pro that may interest you. http://aussiescanners.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=265

you would need the adjustment software and the correct adjustment cable from Icom to adjust the power output best to take it to a icom dealer for that as you would need other equipment to make sure it is aligned aswell

Get a decent antenna , be much better than giving your radio a flogging at 25 watts and it's legal !!
