Portable Vertical Antennas?

Post by vkcpolice »

Hi guys im looking for anyone who has been out in the field with a portable ssb cb radio using a vertical antenna.

ive been trying to make a portable cb station the original antenna idea was a vertical pretuned 27mhz whip on a camera tripod however this does not seem to work as i get a huge swr reading. was wondering if anyone had any idea's on what i could use as a groundplain. i want the antenna to be able to be carried around in a back pack.
cheers

Run some 9 foot long wires out from the base of the antenna. 45 degrees works well. Make sure the ground plane is attached to the earth of the antenna.
