Is it safe to buy radios from overseas off ebay?
And will they work here in Australia?
Cheers

Depends on the radio, and what you want it to do.SunnybankScan wrote:And will they work here in Australia?

Scanners designed for the American market generally do NOT cover the 70 to 85 MHz VHF Mid-Band (used by Rural Fire Services, and a lot of Councils, in Australia).
The 800 MHz Trunked Radio Band in Australia, goes up to 869.9875 MHz.
In America, it stops at 868.9875 MHz, so makes it a bit hard to Trunk Track the Australian system properly.

Oh right
Yeah, I was looking at buying a Motorola MTS2000, a HT2000 or an XTS from America that covers the 403-470 UHF band. They seem to be easier to get over there, and taking in account the extra amount for shipping and the exchange rate, its still relitivley cheap.

A good site I have visited recently is asia radio sales it, you can change the rate to australian dollars and it seems really cheap.
I emailed the guy before writing this and he said that postage is built into the price and the prices are wholesale

Re: Buying from overseas?
I wouldn't risk buying outside OZ. The power is different as well as the plugs. Asian operating manuals can be in in their own lingo instead of English.
EBay is also a gamble for private auctions. You have to trust the seller. Read up on their feedback.
Good bargains can be had with reputable Australian on line traders.
Cheers
