Rural Tankers

Post by stingray »

Heard a while ago the SE Region Rural Tanker using their vehicle number as a callsign (Rural Tanker 004).

Haven't heard them for a while, have they got a new callsign?

Are they using the "70s" group (water tanker) as a callsign?

No they kept the same callsigns coz it's not attached to a particular station (just housed there). Hasn't been used as much due to the lack of fires

Well....
It has had a new callsign for a couple of months now... its ER71 (they gave them all a new callsign)

Its not because of fires that we haven't heard it. it should have been out helping with flood cean up but...

All but 1 of the fleet tankers are off the road. The 1 that's still ok is the south west region tanker (WR71)
lets just say the chassis doesn't like the weight.
Me thinks they should have put them on an Isuzu FTR900 not an FRR700!

Not entirely true... Yes they are all now using the 70 callsigns..

But the Northern region one is just fine..

And its theirs (its not a bad looking unit either - i saw it in action at Grantham last month). its not a fleet tanker.
A 61 is a response vehicle whereas the fleet tankers are more for support at large incidents or to support airbase operations.

Thanks for that.

Are there any other brigades that have a 900 Isuzu?

Are they bringing out any more of the Rural Tankers?

Wasp Creek has an Isuzu (not sure if it's 900) as well as several other brigades having these heavy tankers (ranging in models)

the rural tank 04 has probly been taken off the road cus
A)its a heap of crap
B-Z) its a waste of space

the pumps on those trucks are "only to be used for washing the truck down"
the pump is useless as a firefighting steam jet/ spray what ever
oh and it an attempt to make everything more addaptable there are 3times as many couplings on those trucks makeing it very confuseing. At my station when we where shown this truck it took half dozen to a dozen rural+ auxilery firefighters with countless numbers of years experiance over an hour to figuser out where things where supposed to go, that was of course all lost once things where put back.

the rural tankers them selves are loosely based off the urban victor truck as unlike most rural tanks, that have 4+ seats the, rural tankers only have 2.

once you get past the bad pump, the truck would be very usefull on big jobs its carrys, spare ppe, a 12000L mobile water pool, 6or 5 thousand litres of water (i don't remember at this point), shade huts, basicaly everything to make a good command point.

oh it had chairs  comfy chairs

Going through my photos and found some Urban pumps that are the 900 series.

I've been looking through the SmugMug picture site belonging to Matt Hayes and I noticed that Chambers Flat Rural Fire Brigade have what looks like an Isuzu 900 crew cab (Chambers Flat 61).

This CF61 looks to be a very good appliance.

Anyone got pics of Chambers Flat 61.

Rocky point 61 is almost identical and about 6 or 12 months younger than the chambers flat truck.
both seem to be good units.
