Ipswich VKR?

Post by AIRMAN »

I'm in Toowoomba and I receive what I think is VKR on 414.25000 from Ipswich.

414.25000 is outside the normal 468.0000-469.0000 allocations for VKR.

Can anyone verify this to be an actual allocation or my receiver being incorrect?

QPS link from Mt Stradbrook to Toowoomba. It allows Toowoomba QPS to talk to Ipswich QPS if required. And the other way as well. Via a set freq.

It's quite busy as well.

Latest I hear that Toowoomba have started using Tango Whisky as a prefix to their call signs. Maybe this is to avoid confusion with Ipswich or some other VKR station?

Probably there's a new boss of VKR Comms wanting things done properly or 'by the book' :)

Yes, they are using phonetics all over now, but with a few exceptions. Callsigns have been changed to reflect the type of vehicle and it appears that things are being done "by the book". I recently heard a shift supervisor in Gympie berating one of his crews and telling thm that they were using the Queensland Police communications system, not CB

I have also heard the Bndaberg VKR radio room operator getting up crew for inappropriate use of the radio.

VKR Toowoomba has improved over the last few months as well. There are still some who talk as though they are on a mobile phone though!

Roma is now linked to Toowoomba via our Miles site which has a separate link up to the Bunyas and then to Toowoomba. With this up and running Toowoomba now has contact with both the Roma and Charleville police districts from Miles thru to Eromanga...
