Welcome to aussiescanners.

In answer to your request, it would help if you stated whether you lived around Melbourne, or in Country Victoria.

Victoria Police in the Melbourne area is on the Melbourne Metropolitan Radio Network (MMR), which is a APCO P25 Trunked Radio System (Google it if you don't know what that is), and is encrypted, and NO scanner currently available will allow you to hear encrypted transmissions.

Victoria Police in Country Victoria currently operate on the VHF High Band (154 to 174 MHz), but there are rumours that they may also be moving to APCO P25 in the near future.

Even some of the V8 Supercars have been reported as using encrypted transmissions.

The Uniden UBC396T would be suitable for listening to any of the NON-encrypted transmissions in Victoria, including the V8 Supercars, but manufacture of that model ceased in mid 2009, although some retailers still advertise as having stocks. The Recommended Retail Price (RRP) is around $998.00, although you can probably pick up a second hand one for a lot less.

GRE's PSR-500 would also be suitable for listening to any of the NON-encrypted transmissions in Victoria, but I have no idea of a price.

Thank you for kind responce to my questions.

Sorry for not indicating my area , but l guess l would come under Melb Metro as l am only 30 kilometers from Melb CBD.

You mentioned the GRE's PSR-500 will this unit pick up fire & ambulance?

Also is there any other brand of unit that will do this ?
