Welcome dwa55,

Where abouts are you from ? That antenna should work great with the 396xt.

Cheers Shane

now I understand most stuff here is encrypted. I can pick up 469.400 if I go stand in my backyard without the antenna I bought. Other than that i can't find much else i was told there would be still some stuff that is un-encrypted

If only I knew how to put the antenna on the roof

469.4000 MHz is the NSW Police on Isaacs Ridge.

The ActewAGL have an MPT1327 Trunked Radio System, with Control Channels on the following frequencies.

416.1875 - Isaacs Ridge
416.4375 - Bulls Head
416.3125 - Black Mountain
416.1000 - Oak Hill
416.2250 - Tuggeranong Hill

Even though you won't want to "listen" to the frequencies, as they are data streams, the transmissions are useful for comparing antennas, signal strengths from different Sites, etc., as they are transmitting 24/7.

As for your eBay antenna, Mobile One is a reputable manufacturer, and as long as it is not a copy, that antenna should give you a better signal, than the standard "rubber ducky" supplied with the scanner, even without a Ground Plane.

I would shoot off an email to tech@mobileone.com.au

Or alternatively call Phone: 02-46556677 and ask for Peter, I am sure he will be willing to help you out.

I have a suspicion perhaps there is a short somewhere and the coax is acting as the antenna. Thus poor receive.

It should be. We're (Gold Coast) currently being pelted with rain and mines going brilliant. Never ever had a problem with it.
