is there much of a loss in range if I fit a coax joiner to my fibreglass aerial?

reason being its fairly big and I cant fit into most underground car parks

Not sure what you mean by coax joiner. Why don't you get one of the bases that fold over and fold it down when needed.

I don't know how noticeable but there will be some loss using any extra connectors. I would probably go for the option above as SteveO mentioned

Don't really understand your question.

I am guessing you want to cut your antenna in two, so that you can remove the top section when entering underground car parks, then join it back together when you exit.

Well, the standard coax joiner is certainly NOT suitable for the job, and without knowing the exact design of your particular antenna, I can't think of any off-the-shelf solution.

I would go with the suggestion for the fold-over base.

I was refering to cutting the aerial cable, not the aerial itself

I looked into the fold down bases and this looks to be a good solution
