umm, that radio does not actually have a no Tx side to it, unlike Motorola when you tick a box and you cannot transmit. You could actually have the Tx freq in as well the tone to actually transmit into there network, so just be carefully in putting any Tx freq into the radio.GME Man wrote:Just some police, fire and ambulance frequencies.
You should just go to the baofeng site and just download there software, which works well with it.

Re: Baofeng uv-5r programming
The Baofeng UV-5R only covers about 154 to 174 MHz, and about 420 to 520 MHz.GME Man wrote:Just some police, fire and ambulance frequencies.
Emergency Services in the Toowoomba area are on the Government Wireless Network (GWN), which is digital AND encrypted, which means you cannot listen to them.
Rural Fire and Ambulance, to the West and South of Toowoomba, are still on mid-band VHF (70 to 85 MHz), which the Baofeng cannot receive.

If you are using the cable that came with the radio and your computer is reasonably new, you will have trouble. Best bet is to try to get a serial cable for your radio and a usb to serial adaptor that WILL work on the newer Windoze.

With most of these radios, you have to tell it which COM port you are using. From memory, I think the default is port 3.
