528C?

Post by Salis532 »

Heard on the radio this evening proceeding to a street in South Caboolture. Heard fleet 934 on radio last night stating they were fully crewed proceeding to Caboolture but at that stage had no call-sign. Possibly standing by for an event of some sort.

I know they don't normally have one I think it must be temporary. It went to something in Frank Street, Caboolture.

There have been overtime crews standing by at Frank st, Caboolture South since friday night. Its listed simply as "Standing by for community safety" There are no venues for an event in Frank st so it will be interesting to see why they were there.

528 C was on fire watch for a boarding house grossly overloaded with people before they were evicted on the Monday. This is the related story.

528C is a temporary callsign. Any extra pumpers that need to be stationed out of 28 that aren't normally there are assigned the call signs 528C and 528D. Alternatively, if a permanent vehicle is going to be out of service for a short period they may assign the spare pump as C or D rather than go through the whole ANI/Selcall change rigmarole with FireCom. Also, 528C may have been a spare service pumper that just happened to be sitting in the engine bay waiting to be transported back to the workshops when the fire call came in. As Caboolture is a mixed crew station (permanent and auxiliary) 528C may have been crewed by extra auxiliaries who missed 528B when it turned out.

Back in "the day" I worked out of 28 Caboolture during a particular severe wildfire period and they brought up extra pumpers from the workshops to be based out of 28 station. We had 928 (now known as 528A - Scania urban pumper), 928A (now known as 528B - Isuzu pumper tanker), 928B (Firepac), 928C (Firepac) and 928D (also a Firepac) all squeezed into the engine bay along with 528 (now 528K - Toyota Dina ET). They just added another letter to the end of 928 for each extra appliance ( I've a got photo of the crowded engine bay somewhere?)

In the QFRS FIG it states that A and B are rescue pumpers and C and D are standard pumpers (non-rescue). I don't think that Brisbane Region has any standard pampers in permanent service anywhere? They are pulled out of the workshops when required such as for strike forces, spare service exchange vehicles etc.
Cheers
