WTB: Uniden 92 XLT scanner

Post by bagman002 »

Hi guys I am in the market to buy a 92 XLT scanner for use as a pager decoder.

So if anyone has one that would like to sell it please PM with details.

However if anyone has recommendations on the best place to buy one I'd appreciate that as well.

Thanks
Brent

Im using a $20 dollar nooelec usb dongle for r pager decoding and getting 100 percent decode rate. Could be another option to think about. Dan

That's sounds to be ideal. I'll have to check it out thanks.

Do you still require XP?

Could you please provide a model number that you are using or a link.

This is the exact link I got mine

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NooElec-TV28 ... 1096351883?

And this one is the newest one which just came out, Comes with a better antenna and it has less noise. It's an extra $20 or so

Hi Dan,

I have got my dongle and I have installed SDR and PDW but not sure how to get it working.

I have it set to 148.6375 as most of the guides tell me to and I can only hear white noise/static. I am currently at Coolum Beach and I am going to try again once I get home in Nambour

Thanks
Brent

Ok download vb audio cable and install that. That will be the audio output yoy use from sdr sharp to PDW. Have you got the bandwith set to 12500? And on fm?

I have installed VB cable and set that as the soundcard in PDW.

I had it set to USB. I don't see to have an option for FM I do however have a NFM & WFM. Is it one of theses?

I have found that it will work on some computers but not on others and sometimes it will stop working on a setup that was working. I suspect when the computer does an update something changes?

Okay have my settings up.

I get pager messages through both frequency's. 148.6875 and 148.9125

First thing

Open up the configure options in SDR Sharp via the cog wheel
Sample rate - 1.4 MSPS
You might have to crank your gain up, Mine is set to 48DB
Frequency correction : That you will have to play around with. There are articles that describe it

Use NFM, Bandwith 12500

Make sure not to use any squelch settings or anything like that
You should see in the waveform when the frequency comes through, If you cant have a play with the antenna

Once that is coming through make sure audio output is set to the vb cable

In PDW, Open the options and set it to decode all the bandwiths
And in configure make sure its set to the vb cable and you should see the little noise level thing in the top right corner moving when it gets signal

Thanks heaps for your help.

I have it working now but at a different frequency but I am assuming that is due to the frequency correction (I am yet to read up about that)

At home I am getting about 93-97% fairly consistently but it does go higher so I will just need to play around with placement of the antenna and see where I get the best signal.

Now I can start my research on filtering the messages and what to scan for.

I appreciate your help :D

What frequency are you getting it on? To fix it lock to a known frequency and in real time you can adjust the correction up or down. Keep playing until it's spot on. That was my problem for a while. The decode will drop a bit every now and then but let it go for a bit and it should hit 100 percent the more it decodes. If not just keep adjusting the position of the antenna or get a cheap mcx to bnc adapter and a Nagoya ut 108 works perfect and the antenna cost about 8 bucks from eBay

Without any correction I am currently getting it to work on 148.5514 & 148.6265 so I am not 100% sure what the true frequency is but I can sort that out later.

I have since noticed the longer I leave it going the better the decode rate gets, I only had it going for about 30 mins this morning and now that I am at work I have been running it since 9 and getting 100%.

Now that I have it working I will be setting up one of my spare PC to have it running and email me when it picks up local QFES FIRECALL messages. At the moment I am just using a text filter to try and work out what cap codes they are coming from but so far all seem to be different
