Yarra Trams Frequencies.
Hey all,
I'm a bit curious about Yarra Trams radio frequencies.
I've seen and am graciously currently using @Pumper_50;'s incredible work.
Cheers mate.
I am aware that the system is a "custom analog system, based off MPT1327".
With most frequencies in the 500meg and 486/487meg bands.
When delving deeper and researching on ACMA RRL, the used frequencies are registered to VicTrack,
who also control the rail network.
Is there a band plan, or definite system frequency limits, or any way to differentiate between Rail and Tram frequencies on the RRL?
I've noticed that the frequency list has channels 1-4 and 8-16. But missing 5-7.
I can't seem to see any logical pattern as to the frequencies to try and determine an approximate plan though.
I've compiled a list of frequencies registered to VicTrack, in the range of 480-510mHz in the metro area.
These are as follows:

Re: Yarra Trams Frequencies.
Yarra Trams broadcasts off Melbourne Central Towers, Eureka, 101 Collins, Rialto Towers. The others are rail.
The data channels are FSK based. Some interesting stuff can be decoded.

LOL.
I just went through all sites and noted down the Tx freqs of everything registered to victrack between 686-510 meg.
All the rail stuff is a bit lower frequency I've found.
Got a handful of frequencies (13 extras to be precise), plugged them into a new system in the scanner and started listening.
It was immediately obvious that at least 3 of those were control channels / data. So I avoided them.
I've left the others in, we shall see if I get any action.

Re: Yarra Trams Frequencies.
Unless things have changed since my last visit to Melbourne the tram network is a conventional voting system, not trunking. The data is not control channel but AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location also referred to Autonomous Vehicle Location). As the name suggests it transmits data back to control so they know the location of each vehicle.melbournefan wrote:I tried to put the CC into Trunkview once
In some systems I have seen while travelling on trams overseas the receivers were located on street lamp posts located a few hundred metres apart. The transmitters were location at the top of the tram and were using a few hundred milliwatts.

Ok, thanks VK3YMML.
I was aware of all those frequencies thanks.
However, I was not aware that they were using DMR.
Cheers.

Those DMR freqs are a mystery. Seen that they transmit out of Frankston and its all ARS IIRC.Blake wrote:Ok, thanks VK3YMML.

There is one DMR channel I have found on 472.315 or 472.320 that has trams chatter

Re: Yarra Trams Frequencies.
Neither of those are legit frequencies. It would be either 472.3125 or 472.3250. Unless it is very narrow NXDN or TETRA, the channel spacing is 12.5 kHz spacing.VK3YMML wrote:There is one DMR channel I have found on 472.315 or 472.320 that has trams chatter

3250 is Orion Trunked and the first one has nothing attached to it...

Re: Yarra Trams Frequencies.
Can you advise on what you've heard that makes you think this might be tramways traffic?VK3YMML wrote:There is one DMR channel I have found on 472.315 or 472.320 that has trams chatter
