Maybe I misunderstand your post, but:-

LAC = Local Area Command, which roughly equates to a QPS District, and

PF = Police Force.

which would suggest that they will be changing to UHF completely in the near future they must have done some big upgrades to get UHF coverage everywhere then

you would need the NAC for the transmission. as for the software if you know where to look you can get them going
I have been checking out Motorola XTS3000 and 5000's on ebay lately. Will they pick up the digital channels and how hard / easy are they to program??
Hi Scott,
I have a XTS3000 it does the 80 channel UHF CB, also loaded in it is the 70cm amateur freq. The radio is a P25 radio but will need the encryption codes / key if you want to listen to the police and the encryption board as well. But we cannot access that. Also the hand held is computer access programed.

Don't just buy this hand held to listen to the police because you cannot it won't decode the encryption, unless you have access codes / keys which no one has except for the police.
Google it there is plenty of info out there.

Paul,

i doubt that the NSW Regional Police will turn on the Encryption just yet, not to say they wont in the future. i don't see why you would need the encryption key if you just listening to open P25 providing you know the NAC or put in the NAC as F7E it will decode any given code

True if they are going digital then why not encoded it? from the posts above I assume encryption was also happening just like QLD.

no there are many areas throughout NSW that use P25 without Encryption. probably best not to assume, when bundaberg trialed digital (yes they trialed it) it was open air to see if it would work before wacking on the encryption

So far in Richmond/Tweed (NSW Far North Coast), UHF ch 83 Parrotsnest (Lismore), ch 101 Mt Nardi and ch 105 St Helena (Byron Bay) have gone P25 in the clear (not encrypted).

All VHF Lo Band is still analogue and is still used by all mobile and portable units in the area. Sydney Police were up the other weekend and were using UHF Moto XTS3000 portables in P25.

These three repeaters have been switching in and out of P25 from time to time.

Just program Moto XTS3000 to MIXED mode and set P25 to CSQ Squelch and you can pick up transmissions in both analogue and P25 on the same channel. Also, CSQ Squelch also means you can listen to P25 without the NAC. I have one of these radios and listen in P25 all the time. They are a great little radio and cheaper than a digital scanner!
Cheers

I just got a cheap RIBless lead off EBay. Think it only cost me $20 and took about a week to arrive. Works like a charm!

Welcome back here too Geoffro :)

Next question - would you ever consider putting your Gold Coast feed back up?

Cheers.

Thanks guys! I don't get much of a chance to get on here anymore!!

About the Gold Coast feed, yes Grunter! I would consider putting it back up again as I still have all the gear for it. The only thIng I'm lacking is the broadband connection. We've been back on the coast for about 3 months now but I'm only using my Vfone data on iPhone and Telsta wireless broadband for my laptop at the moment. I need to check out broadband again but as usual, it all costs money which makes It hard with a mortgage these days!

I might get it up and running again one day!

:)
Cheers

Another two Northern Rivers repeaters have fallen foul of P25! My current "observations" for the Northern Rivers are;

CH 037 (Springbrook) - P25
CH 073 (Burringbar Range) - Analouge
CH 080 (Razorback, Tweed Heads) - Analouge
CH 083 (Parrots Nest, Lismore) - P25
CH 101 (Mount Nardi) - P25
CH 05 (St Helena, Byron Bay) - P25
CH 125 (Razorback, Tweed Heads) - P25

I suspect ch 073 Burringbar will be the next to fall and that should be about it! The whole of the NR area will be P25!! Ch 080 Razorback is owned by the Queensland Police Service and serves as a UHF/VHF crossband repeater to allow Gold Coast UHF cars to be able to talk to VKG and Tweed Heads VHF cars. Because Gold Coast Police havent gone to P25 at all yet I'm guessing this repeater will stay analouge until they do otherwise QPS will not have any comms with NSWPF.

Welcome to the future Bro!!! :)
Cheers

Thanks for the update Geoffro.

Presumably these P25 frequencies are "in the clear" ie unencrypted.

Regards.
